Gunung Merapi - Ketinggian dan Sejarah Gunung Merapi

 Gunung Merapi (ketinggian pucuk 2.930 mdpl, per 2010) (Hanacaraka:ꦒꦸꦤꦸꦁ​ꦩꦼꦫꦥꦶ) merupakan gunung berapi pada sisi tengah Pulau Jawa dan adalah satu diantaranya gunung api teraktif di Indonesia. Lereng segi selatan ada dalam administrasi Kabupaten Sleman, Wilayah Spesial Yogyakarta, dan bekasnya ada dalam tempat Propinsi Jawa tengah, adalah Kabupaten Magelang disamping barat, Kabupaten Boyolali disamping utara dan timur, dan Kabupaten Klaten disamping tenggara. Wilayah rimba di kurang lebih pucuknya jadi wilayah Taman Nasional Gunung Merapi mulai sejak tahun 2004. Gunung ini punya potensi kebencanaan yang tinggi lantaran berdasarkan catatan kekinian mengenyam erupsi tiap dua hingga sampai lima tahun sekali dan disekelilingi oleh pemukiman yang padat. Mulai sejak tahun 1548, gunung ini udah meletus sejumlah 68 kali. Kota Magelang dan Kota Yogyakarta merupakan kota besar paling dekat, punya jarak kurang dari 30 km dari pucuknya. Di lerengnya masih ada pemukiman hingga sampai ketinggian 1.
